Spyglass Hill was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and takes the inspiration for its name from Robert Louis Stevenson’s famed classic story Treasure Island. Opened in 1966, Spyglass Hill has hosted many championships and has come to be viewed as one of the most challenging courses in the world from the championship tees. Situated in Pebble Beach, CA, the course has two distinctly different elements: the opening stretch of holes plays along the Pacific Coastline with dunes and the effect of ocean breezes while the second stretch winds through the Del Monte Forest and is dotted with challenging water features.
Strategically located trees are troublesome obstacles on the curved fairway of this tough par 5. The cluster of large bunkers guarding the sloped green presents quite the challenge. Named “Treasure Island”, Hole 1 has a sweeping ocean view.
